A year in the Making...

The French Society for Therapeutic Oligonucleotides (SFOT) was born from a shared conviction: France possesses outstanding scientific expertise in therapeutic oligonucleotides, yet this excellence required stronger national structuring to fully realize its translational and industrial potential. On October 16, 2025, a group of scientists and experts in the field of therapeutic oligonucleotides gathered at PariSanté Campus for the 1st French Day of Therapeutic Oligonucleotides. This landmark event brought together nearly 150 participants, reflecting the remarkable momentum and growing interest surrounding this promising therapeutic modality.

Discussions throughout the event made one thing clear: France benefits from a strong and highly motivated network of researchers, clinicians, industrial partners, and stakeholders. However, this ecosystem required greater coordination and structuring to become fully competitive at the international level.

This first national meeting was not an endpoint — it was a starting point. It marked the beginning of the structuring of a national sector dedicated to therapeutic oligonucleotides, with the ambition of positioning France as a leading and competitive actor in this rapidly evolving domain. The enthusiasm demonstrated during this inaugural day confirmed the collective will to move forward together.
